Cinquains and Couplets

Today I learned about couplets and cinquains. I am homeschooled and my favorite subject is poetry. I have a poetry journal that I put my poetry in. I also put some on this blog, as you can see. I have some couplets and cinquains that I would like to share with you.

CINQUAINS
Honey,
Happy, protective,
Jumping, swinging, loving,
Loves to be carried!
Cat.
.
Turkey,
Fat, clumsy,
Gobbling, wobbling, hobbling,
A very clumsy thing!
Thanksgiving Dinner.
.
Here's one that I got from a book!
.
Pickle
Bumpy, lumpy,
Crunching, munching, lunching,
Cucumbers makin' you pucker,
Gherkin.
.
COUPLETS
Snow, snow, when will it snow?
Really, oh really, I don't know.
.
One day a big car did beep,
As it climbed up a hill that was very steep.
.
A poem, a poem, I cannot write
I tried and tried all through the night.
.
Through the door I tossed the ball
And watched it roll right down the hall.
.
Up a tree I saw my cat
Put on a funny hat.
.
Grasshoppers, spiders, and tiny ants
Like to eat my brother's pants.
.
I hope you liked the couplets!
.
Well, that's all I have for you. I hope you enjoyed them.

One of my favorite poems is by Shel Silverstein, called Mrs. McTwitter.

Mrs. McTwitter,
The baby sitter
I think she is a little bit crazy
She thinks she's suppose to sit upon the baby!

Ellie,
Your writing is very good! I really enjoyed reading your couplets. I think you will know alot after being home schooled!

Thanks so much for sending us a letter, and my apologies that we have not written yet. I am not as organized as your mother! I am also not very detail-oriented! But we will get to it very soon.

Enjoyed your writing! BTW, we have been listening to the Hartline CD that you and KJ and your parents made ALOT. Isaac and Ben LOVE listening to it! Their favorites are the Yellow Goat, Marsh Hawk, and the one where you sing about a baker, a whiner, etc. (can't remember the name of that song). They also like the giraffe song that KJ sings; his voice sounds kindof cool and echo-y in that song. They really like it though. Your family is quite entertaining! The boys want to make something like that for you guys but I don't really know how to do it! I guess we will stick with writing and drawing for now!
You are wonderful, so sweet and so much fun, and I really mean that. When we left you and your family at Nauvoo I was hoping that my daughter would turn out to be as kind, interesting, creative, and as much fun as you are. You've got integrity girl! I love that. There is never anyone better to be than yourself.

Love and miss you guys,
Diane Snider, Isaac & Ben (Eve & Ted too)

What is a couplet? I would like to try and write one too, but I do not know anything about it.

Ellie,

I like your Ciquains and Couplets. I am like Sister Seele and do not know what a Couplets is. I don't even know what a Cinquains is. Is that Spanish? You will have to teach your Dad.

Love, Dad

Math
is fun
and kinda hard
but good for you
too.

These
don't look
right because I
can't center the silly
cinquains.

I like the one about the turkey and the one about insects eating your brother's pants! I laughed outloud. Keep up the good work!
